However, the report says retention is a problem because some nurses are considering leaving Singapore because they need help settling down.
According to the Singapore Nursing Board, foreign-trained nurses who want to work in Singapore must take a licensing exam and undergo a competency evaluation. Unlike other nations like the US or the UK, where job seekers from outside might need to undergo additional procedures like taking an English language test, Singapore does not.

Each test normally costs USD180 and USD325 depending on where the applicant fits, which may discourage people from applying to such nations, according to a story on the Channel. Associate Professor Jeremy Lim from the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore said that nurses now have many more alternatives than they did in the past because of how the pandemic has forced everyone to prioritize nursing.
According to him, another crucial factor for foreign nurses working abroad is how near their family is to them. Singapore will hire over 4,000 more nurses by the end of 2023, according to a statement made earlier in November by Health Minister Ong Ye Kung.
It is almost 700 more nurses than were hired in the previous year and would account for nearly 10% of the current nursing employment.
