If you’ve done a GNM course and are considering getting a job in the Gulf, you might be wondering whether a nursing diploma is enough to get a license there. A GNM nurse can work in GCC countries, but the conditions and professional title may vary in different countries.
Your course duration, nursing registration, clinical experience and other credentials can all affect your eligibility. So, before applying for a job, it is worth checking the requirements of the country and licensing authority you are targeting. Dynamic Health Staff provides all the necessary information that is required for nurses who want to work in the GCC countries.
Does a GNM Qualification Work in the GCC?
A 3-year GNM or nursing diploma is accepted in some GCC licensing routes, but the title, pay band, and eligible countries differ. It does not automatically give you the same classification as a BSc nurse. Saudi Arabia has a Nurse/Midwife Technician classification for diploma-trained professionals, while other regulators have their own qualification and title requirements.
Your nursing qualification is assessed based on the specific country and authority rather than assuming that one GCC rule applies everywhere. The diploma can help you qualify for opportunities in GCC countries, but it determines under what title and at what pay regulators will register you.
What About the UAE and Qatar?
The UAE follows the Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR), which sets licensing requirements for different nursing titles. The current UAE PQR lists a bachelor’s degree for the Registered Nurse title and a nursing diploma for the Assistant Nurse title.
Qatar has a different route. Its published nursing guidelines state that a three-year nursing diploma can meet the educational requirement for Registered General Nurse, along with the required post-registration clinical experience and qualifying exam.
GNM nurses need to make sure that they do not rely only on their friends and past applicants for the information. The licensing requirements can change over time; they also depend on your individual qualifications as well as experience. An experienced recruitment agency like Dynamic Health Staff can provide you with reliable information.
What Documents Do GNM Nurses Need?
Check that you have all required professional certification papers in place prior to starting your licensing application process. Papers necessary for the process include your diploma in nursing, transcripts, certificate of registration in nursing, proof of your professional experience, passport, and any other documents necessary to be submitted to the corresponding body.
Credential verification is an important process when getting a license in many other countries as well. For instance, Saudi Arabia requires that qualifications of applicants receiving their degrees outside of Saudi Arabia be validated.
